module 3

reflection

Module 3 has been immensely beneficial to me. From the videos provided by the teacher, I gained a lot of inspiration and insight, especially regarding the importance of storytelling for both students and teachers. I deeply appreciate how storytelling enhances classroom experiences in real-life situations. I now understand why many professors prefer using personal experiences or storytelling techniques during lectures. Here are some examples and insights I gleaned from the videos regarding the significance of storytelling:

Storytelling serves as an effective method of teaching.
Stories help bridge theoretical concepts to real-life scenarios, allowing individuals to immerse themselves and gain experiential knowledge.
Stories facilitate easier retention of information.
They foster stronger connections between students and teachers, especially when educators share personal experiences.
The storytelling approach piques students’ interest and engagement.
Stories can inspire and provoke deep reflection.
These insights underscore the profound impact of storytelling in education and its role in enriching the teaching and learning experience.

The subsequent requirement focuses on how to effectively tell a story, which I gleaned from the videos:

Establish connections between the story and real-world rules or universal principles.
Encourage students to relate themselves to the story.
Draw inspiration from personal narratives.
Keep the story simple and easy to understand to maintain engagement.
Introduce the story naturally, emphasizing the significance of the context.
Use gestures or body movements to enhance student engagement during storytelling.
Employ appropriate pacing and rhythm to make the narrative more dynamic.
Incorporate elements that capture the audience’s attention, such as references to well-known movies, novels, or music.
Ensure the story includes a climax or an intriguing open-ended conclusion.
Encourage students to summarize and reflect on the story after listening to it.
Weave stories into case studies.
Allow students to become storytellers themselves, transitioning from listeners to narrators.

For interactive stories, I learned from the teacher’s materials that they involve active participation from players, who can influence the game’s outcome through their choices and ideas. Of course, a good story should have a strong beginning, middle, and end. Therefore, I wrote a story on Twin about a young boy venturing into the city for adventure. I spent a long time crafting this story, ensuring that many choices ultimately led to the same conclusion. This approach cleverly recycles plot elements without making the story overly intricate. However, even with this strategy, writing a more complex story would require even more time and patience.
